Intersex Support Group International was established BY and FOR persons whose bodies were born with a physiological or genetic characteristic which has been diagnosed as Intersexual. The physical characteristics of our bodies and emotions make us different from others in many ways. We believe that we are also spiritual beings capable of knowing God. We recognize that our Creator and Lord, Jesus Christ, is the infallible only Son of God. This loving and gracious God of the universe allowed the free expression of will to all mankind, and in response all mankind has chosen a selfish path which God's Word, the Bible, declares as sin. The many consequences of that fallen nature, including the conditions now designated as intersexual, are the damaged results of what was God's perfect creation. We believe that God's original creation design for humanity was that of male and female bodies, identities, roles, and relationships, which the Bible declares to be a living picture of Christ and the Church. We believe that decisions in treatment of intersexuals both medically and socially have further complicated that distinction, creating unique challenges for intersexuals. Errant treatment of intersexuals is not exclusive to medical protocols. The response by the Church at large to these specific individuals has alienated intersexuals and has also served to drive real people away from a personal relationship with God. That consequence is not God's will. In recognition of our need for a relational aspect of accountability to God, also recognizing our own inadequacies, ISGI has gathered together trustworthy and competent individuals to direct us in our service to intersexuals in the love and understanding of God who made us. It is our conviction that God desires a personal relationship with all mankind, regardless of our physical state. Scripture declares that there is no action or deed of man which can merit God's favor, yet the free gift of God is His love shown to us in Christ's incarnation and sacrificial atonement for all persons. Through an international counseling network, ISGI has set forth to make available to all who desire, open and compassionate care for the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of intersexuals and their families, no matter what the clinical diagnosis. Most importantly we have committed to pray for persons around the earth who daily must battle against a world which has made no place for those with congenital physical/sexual/self identities, real babies, real children, real adults whose physical bodies do not simply conform to female or male.
